An Agreement has been signed between the Municipality of Tartous and a group of private investing companies to develop a tourist and commercial complex in Tartous, Syria. The Development is to be called Antaradus this being the ancient Phoenician name for Tartous. The Joint Venture Company which is established in Syria is called Antaradus for Touristic Development Company.

Much of the site is land reclaimed from the Mediterranean sea and work has been continuing for many months in raising the level of the site to that required for protection from the sea. A sea defense wall is being constructed

The developer have just completed the land fill of the main site and started the foundations construction. Major part of the project will be operated by (Porto) of the Amer Group under the name of (Porto Tartous).

The various elements to be provided in the development are as follows:

1 - The Island Hotel will be a luxury 7-star hotel constructed on an island 600 meters from the mainland linked by a causeway with 280 bedrooms and a number of top luxury suites. All rooms will have sea views.

2 - The Lagoon Hotel will be 5-star business hotel with 350 bedrooms. The hotel will form one section of a lagoon being formed and all rooms will have views over the sea or the lagoon.

3 - Linked to and serviced by the hotel there will be a tower of 110 serviced suites. Again these are located along the edge of the lagoon.

4 - A Commercial center will be built adjacent to the existing business area of the city and the port. This will provide modern offices in a tower of 45,000 m² situated on a 3 story modern shopping mall of 80,000 m². The mall will have food areas and a group of cinemas. Parking will be located under the building.

5 - Touristic Apartments 450 units of varying sizes from 100 – 300m² are to be built to a high quality in secured grounds. These will form the north side of the Lagoon and all with have views over the sea and/or the lagoon. Residents parking will be in basements under the buildings. The building heights will vary from 15 – 20 stories.

6 - A salt water lagoon at a level 2.5 meters above sea level will be constructed and will provide a central feature between the hotel, suites and apartments which border it. Private beaches will be formed.

7 - A central park will form a frontage to the ancient city in order to retain the visual maritime connection. The park will be landscaped and maintained to a high standard and will contain many features for the public to enjoy.

8 - A “Theme village” will be built in with shops, restaurants, cafes, apartments and an Inn will be provided. The complex will vary between 3 to 5 floors and access will be by pedestrian only. The whole will be built on a basement car park and service area.

9 - A Marina with 180 berths with full marina facilities will be constructed.

10 - A Yacht club will be constructed adjacent to the marina.

11 - Conference and Banquet will be constructed with each of the two major hotels.
